We tend to complicate things. But in today’s Bible reading* Micah lays out God’s simple requirements for His people. And it all comes down to relationship and character traits.

We tend to think in terms of Dos and Don’ts. You know, do the Dos and don’t do the Don’ts. But God presents his simple requirements as acting the right way, loving the right things, and walking in a right relationship with God.

Mankind, he has told each of you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you:
to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8 (CSB)

Application

God’s people are no longer under the Law, but under grace. (Romans 6:14) God’s simple requirements for His people under the new covenant are pretty straightforward. Yes, even though Jesus fulfilled all of the moral Law of God, God still has requirements for His covenant people.

Instead of requiring that we fulfill the sacrificial system, obeying the Ten Commandments, or any number of other activities, God simply requires that we act the right way, love the right things, and walk in a right relationship with God.

God’s simple requirements may not be easy, but they are simple.
