Picture of the Scales of Justice: Accountability for everyone for everything

Whether or not we want to admit it, today’s Bible reading* reminds us that there is accountability for everything. We may want to live a carefree life. We may even enjoy a carefree, but Solomon warns, “When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: fear God and keep his commands, because this is for all humanity. For God will bring every act to judgment, including every hidden thing, whether good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 (CSB)

Jesus echoed this thought when He said, “I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36–37 (CSB)

We will have to account for every careless word? That’s what our Lord said. It’s another reminder that our words are powerful. (Proverbs 18:21)

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “You can run, but you cannot hide.” It’s true. God sees it all. God knows it all. And God will judge you. It’s a sobering thought, isn’t it?

But thanks be to God! He hasn’t left us to our own devices to try to figure out how to be ready for accountability before God. He’s given Believers His very own Holy Spirit! Jesus is right there all along the way. When we stand before the judgment seat, we have an advocate — an attorney — to defend our case.

If you are an adopted child of God, you need not fear accountability so long as you fear God.
