The Sovereign God Protects Paul Again
In today’s Bible reading*, we learn of a plot to kill Paul. More than forty Jews have conspired to kill Paul when the Commander sends Paul to report to the Jewish leaders under the pretense of questioning him. These forty men have agreed to not eat or drink until Paul is dead.
But Paul’s nephew learns of the plot and reports it to the Commander. Before the Jews have a chance to ask for Paul to meet with them, the Commander calls two Centurions to gather their men (two hundred soldiers). The soldiers are to escort Paul to Felix, the Governor, that very night, with a note describing the plot. Felix tells Paul that he will hear the case when his accusers arrive.
Application
You’re probably familiar with coincidence. This story is full of them. And God has ordained all of them. From Paul’s nephew being at the right place at the right time to overhear the plans to a sensitive Commander, God orchestrates everything to ensure that Paul will be able to give his testimony of encountering the resurrected Jesus.
God knows everything. He controls everything. So nothing surprises God. Nothing catches God off guard. Paul is able to relax and trust God with the details because he knows God is sovereign. And He knows that God will make good on His Word to look after Paul.
God knows you and your situation, too. He will take care of you if you will only trust Him. It may not work out the way you want, but God will work out everything according to His plan to give attention to Himself.
