God Acts for His Own Sake
Isaiah 48 in today’s Bible reading* drives home the point that God acts to bring attention to Himself. He does everything for His own sake.
I will delay my anger for the sake of my name,
and I will restrain myself for your benefit and for my praise,
so that you will not be destroyed.
Isaiah 48:9 (CSB)
I will act for my own sake, indeed, my own, for how can I be defiled?
I will not give my glory to another.
Isaiah 48:11 (CSB)
Application
We tend to think that we are the center of the universe. That it’s all about us. We fail to remember that it’s all about Him. God created everything and everyone because He wanted to, not because He needed to. His majesty couldn’t be contained; He had to let it out.
So He created a universe where He could express His greatness and goodness. He did it for His renown. His fame. He did it to point the spotlight on Himself. He’s the only one worthy of the spotlight.
Do you give God the credit He deserves? Do you direct the spotlight of your life onto Him?
