King Asa: A Good King

We read about King Asa in today’s Bible reading*. We’re told that although he didn’t do everything right, “Asa did what was right in the Lord’s sight, as his ancestor David had done” (1Kings 15:11 (CSB)

No, King Asa wasn’t perfect. But we’re told that “The high places were not taken away, but Asa was wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord his entire life” (1 Kings 15:14 CSB) Further, we’re told that, “He told the people of Judah to seek the Lord God of their ancestors and to carry out the instruction and the commands.“

That’s the mark of a godly man! King Asa didn’t just devote himself to the Lord. He also called his people to devote themselves to God and His Word.

Application

Paul would later call Timothy to be faithful to teach other faithful men who would faithfully teach others. (2 Timothy 2:2) That’s the idea behind biblical discipleship. Paul would say that you aren’t a devoted disciple unless your disciples are discipling others.
