God Gives Solomon Blessings
We begin to read about King Solomon in today’s Bible reading*. When God asked Solomon what he wanted, he asked for wisdom. God answers his request and grants his request of wisdom with blessings above and beyond his request. (1 Kings 3:12-13; 2 Chronicles 1:11-12)
God is known for that kind of thing! (Ephesians 3:20)
God promises blessings of not only wisdom (Solomon would be wiser than anyone else!), but riches, wealth, glory, honor, and a long life (if he would walk in God’s ways and keep His statutes and commands just his father David had. (1 Kings 3:14)
People came from everywhere to hear Solomon’s wisdom and to see his riches. God poured out on Solomon blessings upon blessings.
Application
How would you answer if God appeared in a dream and asked, “What would you want for me to do for you?” What do you want? What would be most important for you?
You could ask for riches. You could ask for fame. You could ask for a spouse. You could ask for a house. Or five. You could ask for a long life. Like Solomon, you could ask for wisdom.
How you answer God’s question reveals a great deal about where your priorities lie. How you would answer reveals Who or what your god is.
Be careful what you ask for. You may just get it.
