God Gets the Last Word - Every Time

Job has raised his questions and voiced his complaints. His friends have spoken their peace. We have seen all of this unfold for thirty-seven chapters.

Now, in today’s Bible reading*, in just two short chapters and two verses, it’s God’s turn to ask the questions.

“Hey, Job, so you think you’re “all that”? Were you there when I flung the stars into their places? Were you there when the oceans were told how far on the shore they could advance? Did you decide how large the universe would be? When was the last time you told the sun to rise? Did you teach the hawk and eagle how to fly?

God asks His questions. And Job is left speechless. Job realizes his place. And Job trusts God to be God.

Application

Several times over the past few days, I have emphasized that God can handle our complaints and questions. So ask away. Complain away. God can take it.

God has made Himself approachable. God has condescended — He has come down to our level (to some extent). But God is still God. And being God, He always gets the last word.

Like Job, let God have the last word. Like Job, recognize your place. And like Job, trust God to be God.

Getting real with God means letting God get real with us.
