As Sure as the Sun Rises

Today’s Bible reading* has a definitive statement concerning the promises of God: As sure as the sun rises, God will make good on His covenant with His people. You would more likely break God’s covenant with the day and night than break God’s covenant with His people.

Wow!

“This is what the LORD says: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night so that day and night cease to come at their regular time, then also my covenant with my servant David may be broken. If that could happen, then he would not have a son reigning on his throne and the Levitical priests would not be my ministers. Even as the stars of heaven cannot be counted, and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so too I will make innumerable the descendants of my servant David and the Levites who minister to me.”
Jeremiah 33:20–22 (CSB)

Did you catch that? As sure as the sun rises, God will surely fulfill His promises to His people!

Application

Job echoed this sentiment when he said, I know that you can do anything and no plan of yours can be thwarted. Job 42:2 (CSB)

None of God’s plans can ever be stopped. None of God’s plans can be changed. God is absolutely sovereign. And all of His purposes will come to pass in His way and in His timing. You can take that to the bank!

This should bring a deep sense of comfort to all of God’s people. Regardless of how your circumstances look, God is absolutely in control. Nothing catches Him off-guard. And He causes everything to work together for the good of His people. (Romans 8:28)

As I type this, I’m praying that God’s people in Afghanistan would get a fresh taste of God’s sovereignty, to realize that as their country falls apart around them, that God is in control. I pray that they will hold tight to His promises and that they would boldly tell their friends, families, and neighbors about the goodness of God.

Please join me in praying for God’s people living in Afghanistan.
