God is Sovereign

Isaiah 14 from today’s Bible reading* describes God’s absolute sovereignty. When I say that God is sovereign, I mean His absolute rule, His reign, His right to call the shots. God is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Jesus told His disciples to seek God’s Kingdom and righteousness above everything else and He would take care of everything else. (Matthew 6:33)

The LORD of Armies has sworn: As I have purposed, so it will be;
as I have planned it, so it will happen.

Isaiah 14:24 (CSB)

The LORD of Armies himself has planned it; therefore, who can stand in its way?
It is his hand that is outstretched, so who can turn it back?

Isaiah 14:27 (CSB)

Nothing ever catches God off-guard. God is never surprised by anything. Never.

Application

What God intends, He will do. What God plans, He will do. What God speaks, He will do. And no one can stand in the way of what God has purposed.

God is in control of everything that happens in our lives, for good or for bad. As I have said on many occasions: Rule Number One in The Christian Walk 101 is, “God is God.” Rule Number Two in The Christian Walk 101 is, “You aren’t God.”

We must recognize these two truths or we will live in constant frustration with everything concerning God.

Job rightly stated, “…Should we accept only good from God and not adversity?” Job 2:10 (CSB) Job knew that God was God. And Job knew that he wasn’t God. That’s why Job accepted what God caused and allowed. Job realized that everything God does is for Himself and for His own glory.
