The Created Order Responds to God’s Majesty

A major theme in today’s Bible reading* is the created order responds to God’s majesty. The psalmist personifies creation and notes that the inanimate world recognizes the majesty of its Creator.

The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD— at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness; all the peoples see his glory.
Psalm 97:5–6 (CSB)

Let the whole earth shout to the LORD; be jubilant, shout for joy, and sing.
Let the sea and all that fills it, the world and those who live in it, resound.

Psalm 98:4, 7 (CSB)

Paul notes that the created order was affected by The Fall and groans for its ultimate redemption and restoration.

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together with labor pains until now. Not only that, but we ourselves who have the Spirit as the firstfruits—we also groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
Romans 8:22–23 (CSB)

Despite the fact that the created order is marred by Adam’s sin, it still has a sense of awe of God and seeks to glorify and praise Him. Use the classic hymn, How Great Thou Art as a starting point for your praise.

Application

We were created to glorify and enjoy our Creator. But although we too have been deeply affected by The Fall, we still bear His image and He has set eternity in our hearts. We know that there is more out there. Unless we have God’s special revelation, the Bible, we have no way of knowing the way of salvation through Jesus.

Spend a little time today praising God and ask Him to reveal more of Himself to you through general revelation: creation, and special revelation: His Word. Enjoy Carrie Underwood’s “How Great Thou Art” video to help prompt your worship.
